Taidepappila Art Center

Taidepappila Art Center was born in 1971, when a youthful visionary and noted ceramic artist, Teemu Luoto, bought an old vicarage in a public auction.

The charming architecture of the Vicarage, built in 1893, is the primary exhibition center and classroom space for frequent art courses and special programs for educational tourist groups.

Located in Kuhmalahti, 46 kilometers from Tampere toward Lahti, Taidepappila Art Center is open daily in summertime, except on Mondays. Inside the Vicarage you will find a delightful cafe where you can enjoy regional and international delicacies.

The Taidepappila Art Center offers art workshops, lectures by request, and a growing range of public services. The Vicarage and other spaces, inside and out, can be rented for private gatherings such as weddings, anniversaries and family and organizational events. In the closing days of the summer season, we celebrate the much anticipated “Night of Arts”, with music, lively performances and the work of outstanding artists especially invited to show recent work.

Teemu Luoto’s residence, studio and a permanent collection of his art are also part of the Vicarage. Luoto is particularly known for his sympathetic animal figures, so you can be confident that your four-legged family members are always welcome in Taidepappila.
